county team championships

Seacroft Oct 13th-15th 2014

This year’s tournament at Sea croft is a true links course, with an out and back finish...

Of course we had an amazing summer and we hoped it would remain so for the duration of the tournament. Everyone made the trek to Skegness, which on this occasion was bracing. Several ladies played on Sunday in lovely weather, with a light breeze. Most teams arrived on Monday morning in driving rain and howling gails. It became apparent that a decision would have to be made as the conditions worsened. At 11.30am it was decided to cancel the competition but players could go out and play as they wanted. I and our playing partners decided to take the lead and off we went. Shortly after, we came in, absolutely drenched, having only played 4 holes...

We woke up the next morning to sunshine and a light breeze, thank goodness and play went ahead. The course was in good condition considering the torrential rain and there were some good scores returned. Helen Lowe was the leader in the clubhouse on 77, followed closely by Sue Spencer on 78. The leaders were all close with only 6 shots separating the top 3, of Nott’s , Leics, with Staffs in the lead, by 2 shots.
The player’s dinner followed in the evening with bingo, which everyone enjoyed and a lovely dinner. This was then followed by a presentation by Amanda Haworth a member at Sherwood Forest golf club who runs Back to Nature Skin care products. All her products are natural made from beeswax and honey. There was an opportunity to buy her products and try them out.
Day 2 arrived and again good weather with a light breeze and all to play for. We were all up for the challenge and some great golf was played in generally good conditions. The course looked magnificent. Staffordshire increased their lead and finished top in the team event. Sue Spencer playing, in her first season as a senior took the best gross prize with 154.
The prize giving arrived and not to disappoint our tradition of a decorated table, we had gone with a seaside theme. Thank you to Sue Pinfold. also a big thank you to Seacroft and all the helpers for making our stay very enjoyable. We all look forward to next year’s tournament to be held at Beau Desert in Staffordshire from 12th-14th October.
